As a key public authority in Northern Greece, the Region of Central Macedonia contributes strategic insight and regional expertise to support the sustainability and long-term impact of the IFIGENEIA project.

The Region of Central Macedonia (RCM) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece and the second most populous in the country. Located in Northern Greece, it comprises seven regional units: Imathia, Kilkis, Pella, Pieria, Serres, Halkidiki, and Thessaloniki, serving as its capital. As a vital political, economic, and cultural hub in Southeast Europe, the region features a diverse landscape that includes mountains, plains, lakes, and an extensive coastline, supporting tourism, agriculture, and trade. RCM plays an important role in regional development, innovation, and cross-border cooperation, actively participating in numerous European projects and initiatives. The region is strongly committed to improving public health services, promoting integrated care models, and advancing digital health solutions through collaboration with local health authorities, academic institutions, and civil society. Through strategic planning and targeted actions, RCM supports sustainable development, social inclusion, and an enhanced quality of life for its citizens.

Within the IFIGENEIA project, the Region of Central Macedonia contributes its experience in regional governance and sustainability planning as the task leader of T5.3: Basic Sustainability for the Excellence Hubs. In this role, RCM focuses on exploring the feasibility of granting legal identities to the Excellence Hubs in order to strengthen their autonomy and improve their long-term sustainability. These efforts collectively aim to ensure the short-term sustainability of the Excellence Hubs beyond the project’s completion, reinforcing IFIGENEIA’s impact at regional and European levels.
