Advanced technologies, scientific research, experiments and promising projects are essential part of Arena tehnologij. Yearly technological event in its third edition took place in Ljubljana on 21 October 2026. With more than 4,700 visitors from schools, faculties, companies and other institutions the event presented opportunity to present the project IFIGENEIA and its relevance for the society.

What happens when young people meet the technologies shaping tomorrow?

At its own exhibition space, the Jožef Stefan Institute introduced young visitors to the world of scientific research, technological development, discovery, innovation and future careers. A key focus was the connection between IFIGENEIA and the modernised accelerator at IJS, offering an opportunity to explore how accelerator technology can support cutting-edge research and contribute to future applications in healthcare.

From accelerator technology to real-world impact

IFIGENEIA is a Horizon Europe project advancing sustainable radioisotope production using linear accelerator (LINAC) technology. Radioisotopes play an important role in modern medicine, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of disease (e.g. cancer). By exploring innovative approaches to their production, IFIGENEIA aims to contribute to more sustainable and resilient European capabilities in this field.

Presenting the project in the context of the Jožef Stefan Institute’s upgraded accelerator helped connect a European research initiative with the wider story of scientific infrastructure, technological progress and the people behind it. It also provided a starting point for showing how physics, engineering and interdisciplinary research can contribute to advances in healthcare.

Inspiring the next generation of innovators

Engaging young people with science is essential for developing the skills and curiosity needed to address tomorrow’s challenges. Arena tehnologij created a valuable opportunity to show how STEM subjects are not just classroom topics: they are the foundations of technologies that can improve lives and shape society.

Through its participation, the Jožef Stefan Institute highlighted a shared ambition with IFIGENEIA: to connect scientific excellence with practical applications, encourage interest in research careers and demonstrate the value of European collaboration.

Today’s curious students could become tomorrow’s researchers, engineers and innovators. By making advanced science more accessible, initiatives like Arena tehnologij help turn that possibility into a future worth building.
