The IFIGENEIA project has published the second edition of its newsletter, marking an important milestone as the consortium reflects on its first year of activities. This issue opens with reflections from the communication team, highlighting key achievements across communication, dissemination and outreach activities, including the establishment of the IFIGENEIA Editorial Board to ensure high-quality content.
A central focus of this edition is an in-depth interview with Prof. Dr. DABR. João Seco, offering expert insights into the evolution of cancer research and the growing role of advanced therapies such as immunotherapy and radiotherapy. The interview also highlights how accelerator technologies, including LINACs, could contribute to the future of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The newsletter features a comprehensive article led by RTD Talos Ltd, highlighting the growing burden of cancer across Europe. Drawing on recent data and projections, the article underlines the steady increase in cancer incidence and the resulting pressure on healthcare systems, reinforcing the urgent need for innovative solutions and connecting these trends with the mission of the IFIGENEIA project.
The newsletter further showcases ongoing project activities such as the construction of an RFQ demonstrator at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, supporting knowledge transfer, which was developed in collaboration with industry partners and inspired by CERN technologies. It also highlights the importance of building trust in nuclear medicine innovation, as well as education and capacity building through initiatives such as the Master Classes in Particle Therapy for Students, taking place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in autumn 2026 (the application process is open until 15 April 2026).
The second issue is now available for download. We invite you to explore the full newsletter and stay connected with the latest project developments.
