Meet the IFIGENEIA partner: Slovenian Academy of Engineering

Mar 31, 2026 | News

The Slovenian Academy of Engineering brings together outstanding engineers and scientists from academia, research institutes and industry, working to strengthen innovation, technological development and the role of engineering in society. Through its expertise, international connections and strategic perspective on science and technology, the Academy also contributes to advancing collaboration and knowledge exchange within the IFIGENEIA Project.

The Slovenian Academy of Engineering (SAE) was established in 1995 by a group of Slovenian scientists from the fields of engineering and natural sciences. In December 2006, the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Law on the Slovenian Academy of Engineering, formally recognising it as a national academy. In 2025, SAE includes 55 full members, 30 associated members, 20 foreign members and 7 honorary members, among them two Nobel Prize winners. The Academy aims to promote Slovenian innovation, development and engineering sciences, strengthen the role and influence of engineers in society, and contribute to strategic planning in research, education, technology and innovation. It proposes actions, programmes and initiatives that improve the quality of research and strengthen technology transfer, while also promoting the “Technology Highway” programme, which fosters cooperation between business, innovation and technology. Its activities include organising and participating in national and international conferences, panel discussions and round tables in engineering and business sciences, publishing reports and proceedings, analysing the annual status of education, research, innovation, patents and enterprises in Slovenia in comparison with the international community, and cooperating with national and international institutions and industry. SAE is a member of CAETS and Euro-CASE and actively contributes to international cooperation, including through engagement with the Science Advice Mechanism at the European Commission.

Within the IFIGENEIA Project, the Slovenian Academy of Engineering contributes primarily to dissemination activities. Through its network of leading engineers and strong connections across academia, research organisations and industry, SAE supports the communication and promotion of project results, helping to strengthen knowledge exchange, foster international collaboration and increase the visibility and impact of IFIGENEIA within the wider engineering and innovation community.
